Being more than twice her age, the dissatisfied, twice-divorced, and borderline neurotic TV comedy writer, Isaac Davis, is already starting to feel a bit uncomfortable in his relationship with the seventeen-year-old drama student, Tracy. Then, as if things weren't complicated enough, against the backdrop of endless and futile attempts to write a novel, and George Gershwin's music, Mary, the high-strung intellectual and insecure mistress of Isaac's married best friend, Yale, enters the picture, and little by little, disdain turns into an affair.
